Wounded vets invited to participate are currently at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. See the invitation flyer.
Free bus transportation was provided by Walter Reed to take the vets and their families and friends on the hour-long ride to Annapolis. The buses departed at 9:30 a.m.
Watermark, a tour company in Annapolis, generously donated the use of one of its boats, the Harbor Queen, for an hour-long tour of historic Annapolis harbor. Click on the image to the right for a larger view of the Harbor Queen. The Harbor Queen, which is accessible to veterans who may be in wheelchairs or have other mobility issues, departs from City Dock in Annapolis and provides a narrated tour of the beautiful harbor, a waterside view of the US Naval Academy, and the Severn River.
When the boat returned to City Dock, the veterans and their families were driven to the nearby Annapolis Landing Marina where a BBQ cookout and picnic was held. The vets also are able to take a dip and relax in the marina's swimming pool. Annapolis Landing Marina generously donated its facility for these very special events.
Military retirees, active duty personnel and other caring volunteers did the grilling and provided comradeship and assistance to the vets.
The picnics were not open to the press nor to the general public, in compliance with the wishes of the veterans.
After a relaxing day away from it all, the vets and their families boarded buses and returned to their quarters at Bethesda or Walter Reed by 4 p.m.
We would like to thank all of our generous sponsors who are making these days possible.
